Morning Routine
I start my day by waking up at 5 AM and going for a refreshing jaunt to…the kitchen. For coffee- an immediate need first thing in the morning. After that, I put myself together for the day, grabbing my protein muffins that I had meal-prepped for breakfast, grabbing my lunch, and my iPad, and running out the door.
Working As a Scribe
Once I’m energized and ready for the day, I make my way to work. I am currently a scribe for a medical oncologist so my day is unpredictable at best. I try to mitigate this by preparing chart notes ahead of time so I not only have a good understanding of what is going on, but I can fill in the physician on the patient’s case.
Afternoon
In the afternoon, I take a well-deserved break – LOL. Just kidding. During my “lunch” at work, I finish anything I didn’t finish that morning and complete my new Anki cards and reviews for the day while eating lunch at my desk. If I still have time, I take a walk or read my book but this is a rarity.
Evening
After a long day at work, I make my way home to begin studying for the evening. I have my phone notifications automatically turned off at a certain time. Once I’m home, I heat up dinner (also meal-prepped ahead of time), which I proceed to eat at my desk usually while watching Khan Academy videos (cough cough, ok so it’s usually Grey’s Anatomy). I use my study checklist and complete my assigned questions for the day. Once I’m done, I try to pick up my house and then it’s finally time to unwind. Typically, this means reading my book or rotting in front of the TV.
Nighttime Routine
Usually, I’m far too tired for a solid nighttime routine. But I try. Before bed, my goal is to perform a solid skincare routine, throw on a candle, and read my book. Some days, I’m too tired to do all that so I crash into bed, complete a lesson or two on Duolingo, read, and try not to fall asleep with the light on and a book on my face.
Weekends
Weekends are a little more freeform. I have a lot of studying to complete, but I can find time during the day to complete that whenever I want. I try to fit in a gym workout and a run on each day off. Then on Sundays, I reserve half of the day for grocery shopping, laundry, meal-prepping, and…rotting in front of the TV if I so choose.
Overall, my day is a mix of work, study, and completing a never-ending to-do list. It can be busy and unpredictable, but I find joy in balancing all aspects of my life while working toward my goals.
Happy doing all the things. Be kind to yourself.
XO Melmo
